Hevy alternative: log the session by talking

Hevy is a workout logger you tap, set after set, with sweaty hands. If that tapping is the part you want gone, SayLift lets you speak the whole session instead. You say what you lifted, the AI writes down every set, and a coach tells you what weight to use next time.

What is Hevy?

Hevy is a workout tracker built by Hevy Studios. You build routines and log each set by tapping it in, and there is a social feed where you follow friends, see their sessions and get comments on yours.

The free tier is capped: 4 routines and 7 custom exercises, with body weight and waist as the only recordable measurements. Hevy Pro, a paid upgrade, removes those caps. There is also HevyGPT, a custom GPT that generates a program in ChatGPT and imports it into your Hevy profile, though on the free tier an imported plan cannot exceed four routines.

Why look for a Hevy alternative?

  • You still log by hand, every set. Hevy's logger is a form. Six exercises means dozens of taps while your rest timer runs down.
  • Four routines on the free tier. If you run an upper/lower plus a deload plus a travel day, you are at the cap before you have started.
  • Seven custom exercises. Anything your gym has that Hevy's library does not, whether a specific machine or a variation your coach named, eats into a small allowance.
  • Measurements are limited on free. Body weight and waist only, unless you pay.
  • It is built around a social feed. If you would rather keep your training to yourself, that is a feed you do not need.
  • HevyGPT generates plans rather than reading yours. If your program already exists as a text file or a photo from a coach, the ChatGPT route is designed to write a new one.

The actual difference: what you do after a set

In Hevy, you finish a set and reach for your phone. Find the exercise, tap the set, confirm reps, confirm weight, hit the checkmark. Then do it again after the next set.

In SayLift, you finish the set and do nothing. At the end of the workout you tap the mic and say "bench press, three sets of eight at 135, incline dumbbell press ten, ten and eight at fifty, then cable crossover three by twelve at thirty." The audio goes to a multimodal AI model that returns all of it structured (exercise, sets, reps, weight) and shows you a review screen before saving. One interaction for the whole session instead of one per set.

The second difference is what happens next. Hevy shows you charts and lets you draw your own conclusions. SayLift reads your history and gives one instruction per exercise for next time: add weight, hold and chase reps, back off, deload, or restart lighter after a long break, with the actual number to put on the bar. SayLift does that arithmetic for you; in Hevy, progression is your job.

The third is what your money gets you. SayLift caps nothing you create: unlimited routines, unlimited custom exercises, your full history, the whole 873-exercise library offline, and cloud backup. You can try all of it free for 3 days with every feature on.

  • One spoken sentence replaces a whole session of tapping.
  • No routine or custom-exercise caps.
  • 873 exercises with instructions and photos that work with no signal, where Hevy needs a connection.
  • Paste your existing plan as plain text and have it built for you.
  • Progression advice included, rather than left to you.

Who SayLift is for

SayLift suits you if the phone-fiddling is what you actually hate. If you want to say what you lifted and be done, then get a clear weight for next time without doing the maths yourself, it is built for exactly that. It also suits anyone who has hit Hevy's four-routine ceiling, since SayLift has no cap on routines or custom exercises. Your training stays private too, with no feed to post to.

Try it free for 3 days with every feature on. After that it is $4.17 a month (billed $49.99 a year), $7.99 a month or $3.99 a week in the US.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a Hevy alternative that logs workouts by voice?

SayLift. It is an iPhone workout tracker built around spoken logging: you say your sets out loud after training and its AI writes down every exercise, set, rep and weight, then shows a review screen before saving. Hevy has no voice logging of any kind.

How much does SayLift cost?

A 3-day free trial with everything unlocked, then $4.17 a month (billed $49.99 a year), $7.99 a month or $3.99 a week in the US. Nothing you create is capped: routines, custom exercises and history are all unlimited.

How much does Hevy Pro cost?

Hevy Pro is $2.99 a month, $23.99 a year, or $74.99 as a one-time lifetime purchase on the US App Store as of August 2026. It removes the free tier's 4-routine and 7-custom-exercise caps and unlocks additional body measurements. SayLift has no caps to remove, and its subscription includes voice logging and the coach. Every Hevy limit, laid out: is Hevy free?

Can I move my Hevy workouts into SayLift?

Your routines, yes. Paste them into SayLift as plain text and its AI splits them into training days and matches each movement to the built-in exercise database. Most people keep Hevy installed for a while to look back at their old sessions.

Can I start SayLift without an account?

Yes. Continue as a guest and your workouts stay on your phone and back up. You can attach an account later. Hevy asks for an account up front.

Which has more exercises, SayLift or Hevy?

Both libraries are large enough that most lifters never hit the edge. The practical difference is that SayLift's 873 exercises, with their step-by-step instructions and photos, are bundled inside the app and work with no internet, which is useful in a basement gym, while Hevy's library loads from the network.

Does Hevy have an AI coach?

Hevy has HevyGPT, a custom GPT that generates a training program in ChatGPT and imports it into your profile. That is plan generation rather than ongoing coaching: it does not read your logged sets each week and tell you what weight to use next. SayLift's coach does that, from your own history, as part of its subscription.

Stop typing between sets

Say what you lifted. SayLift writes down every set, rep and weight, then tells you what to lift next time. Say what you ate and it counts the calories too. iPhone only, 3 days free then $4.17 a month, billed $49.99 a year.
